A recent example of such an intervention is the relief provided when the Danube was rising in 2006. SAMR intervened in the Danube Delta area. After only two days that the area was flooded we provided emergency help for 300 families. Within a few weeks we set up the flood victims’ camp: 14 tents with a total surface of 420m2 for the people who lost their homes. SAMR also took part in the rebuilding of the houses and, in order to add a benefit to the assisted community, we bored and equipped a well of big depth to ensure drinking water (an old problem in the area).
The experiences gained in the flood interventions and the acquired results made us be present also in 2007, this time relieving drought effects by boring wells providing drinking water for the population. These investments are a long-term contribution to the welfare of the drought affected population, especially if we focus on its impact on preventing problems that could turn out due to the lack of proper hygiene.
With our model partnership made with JTI Romania in 2007, we finalized the boring of 9 dwells, 6 in the Danube Delta, 3 in Ialomiţa and Brăila counties. We go on with the boring and equipping other dwells of big depth in the villages where drinking water supply is non-existent, thus providing a huge help for the population from hygienic- sanitary point of view.
