Daytime centers and weekend schools

School abandon is a phenomenon that we meet more and more often among the socially disadvantaged children. They do not get the necessary support from their families to face the challenges of school. We offer socio-educational assistance for children in need to prevent school abandon, our final objective being their integration in the society. We follow the education and nursing of socially disadvantaged children, street-children and Gypsy children.

The Romanian Maltese Relief Service is carrying out two permanent programs of socio-educational assistance: ‘Sf. Iosif’ daytime center in Satu Mare and ‘Social and educational assistance for Gypsy children’ in Băbeni branch.

‘Sf. Iosif’ daytime center takes care of 120 children, who take part in different educational, counseling and free time activities every week, get food and have a bath.

The assistance project for Gypsy children focuses on, besides the weekly meetings and counseling for parents in order to send their children to school, prevention of school abandon and change of mentality.
