Tuitio fidei et obsequium pauperum – ’Defence of the Faith and assistance to the poor and the suffering’, this is the motto of the Knights of the Sovereign Order of Malta and represents the tradition that we keep. The most visible side of our activity is the relief provided for those who are in need, but this is not possible without Christian basis. That is why Christian spirituality serves as basis for the activities of the Romanian Maltese Relief Service. In order to support our volunteers spiritually we take part in a series of events meant to strengthen our faith, to motivate us, so that we can show the love of God to the people through our charity activities.
The eight-pointed cross symbolizes the eight points of courage: ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are they that have been persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.’
